The Free Cally Baskets Duo Crochet Pattern: Two Is Better Than One

Will you look at that, it’s March already. It feels like it was only January and we had a whole year of promise and excitement. Well, I guess we still have the most of a year but now it all feels less sparkly and new. But you know what is new? This week’s new pattern… well two new patterns, the Cally Baskets Duo crochet patterns 🙂

I’m sure by now you know I love a good basket, especially when I use Hue + Me. Well, honestly any bulky weight yarn makes for a great basket. If you can deal with the hand strain (maybe I’m alone in that but bulky does take a bit more strength to work with) smaller than recommended hooks and bulky weight yarn are the best for baskets. I like to use the smaller hook because it makes the basket sturdy AF. Like, look at these photos – the sides really do stand up on their own.

With Spring right around the corner I wanted to make a new basket with bright colors and fun but when I sat down to design one, I accidentally made two. Oops, don’t you hate when that happens? Well, luckily I’m very adaptable and I ran with it. And now I have this cute little duo that hold my yarn and even more yarn. How lucky is that?
They’re both cute little compliments to each other and work up pretty easy. They’re worked in the round from the bottom up, with turns every row. For me, I love to make sure the basket has turns because that way it keeps my seam as straight as I can get it. I don’t like a disruptive seam, ya know? Also, the turns help to make sure that texture on the scc really pops. Well, that and the color change.

Did you know: This week’s Cally Baskets Duo crochet pattern is actually a take on my Calista Basket. I wanted to update the design with a fun new vibe but keep the texture I really love. I hope you like this new pattern and check out the kit from Lion Brand Yarn or buy this pattern on Ravelry.
And remember to be kind to each other, wear and wash your masks and don’t tolerate bigotry.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of designing the Cally Basket Duo crochet pattern, with compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I always enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times, I really love making home decor items with the Hue + Me yarn. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated. You can purchase a kit for this pattern from Lion Brand Yarn as well

Notes

  • Scc (single crochet cluster): (this stitch is worked into two stitches) insert the hook into the first st, pull up a loop, insert the hook into the next st, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on the hook, ch 1. This stitch is worked like a sc2tog and a ch 1 that count together as one stitch. When working into this stitch, you will work into the sc2tog and the ch-1 spaces.
  • Each pattern is worked from the bottom up in 3 sections: the Base, the Sides, and the Handles.
  • There are turns on each rnd.
  • Using a 5.50 mm hook for this size yarn helps to make the sides sturdy and stand up.
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of the rnds does not count as a stitch.
  • The samples were with Hue + Me Yarn by Lion Brand Yarn in the colors Grapefruit (color A) and Salt (Color B).
