Christmas Glitter Slime
A fun twist on our classic glitter slime recipe, this Christmas Glitter Slime is a festive Christmas sensory play idea for kids and makes a great homemade Christmas gift for the slime lovers in your life!
Simple Glitter Slime Recipe
You know I appreciate any excuse to incorporate glitter into crafts, and there is no better holiday than Christmas to break out all the glitter!
There are a couple ways to make glitter slime, and after you make it each way, you’ll probably have a favourite out of the two.
Now that Elmer’s offers more glitter glue color options, you can use glitter glue to make this glitter glue slime and skip the addition of glitter. Personally, I like using our own fine glitter so that we can make our glitter slime super saturated and also customize the colors to our personal preferences – plus I find clear glue slime stretchier than glitter glue slime. However, the advantage to the glitter glue slime version is that no excess glitter can get spilled and tracked through your house. Pick whichever method works best for you. Either way, it’s going to be so much fun for the kids to play with!
(I don’t advise using the cheap glitter glues you can buy at dollar stores – they tend to not work for slime recipes.)
This Christmas slime would be such a fun gift for the slime enthusiasts in your life. I think little containers of it would be fun stocking stuffers or classroom gifts.
I’ve personally been a little nervous at the idea of buying gifts for all of Ella’s little friends (I don’t know how I got an extrovert for a daughter, but here we are). Their parents may silently curse me, but little containers of slime sound like a great, budget-friendly gift idea to me!
Eventually, the glitter will all mix together and no longer appear in stripes. (See picture below to see the confetti mash-up of colors.) I still think it looks pretty and it’s still super stretchy, squishy fun!
This slime recipe will last for about a month in a sealed container. You may need to knead it or add more slime activator (contact solution or liquid starch) if it is left sitting for more than a day, but it will come back to a good slime consistency afterwards.

Glitter Slime Ingredients
- Clear Glue
- Contact lens (saline) solution– this is the brand I used OR use Liquid Starch
- Baking soda, optional
- Water
- Craft glitter – red, green, white (or silver)

Tip: the contact solution must contain boric acid as an active ingredient. I linked the brand I used above. Contact solution is a diuretic so please don’t let young kids handle it and ensure your child washes their hands after playing with the slime as a precaution.
Second tip: slime is not something you can reliably measure. It’s by look and feel, so go slow and adjust as necessary.
Third tip: If using contact solution, some people find adding 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to be helpful but I honestly don’t notice a difference.

How to Make Glitter Slime for Christmas
Now you can make this slime in two different ways.
Method One:
Pour 1 cup of glue in a large mixing bowl. Add one color of glitter.
Stir the water into the glue, about 2 Tablespoons to start.
Then add the contact solution or liquid starch – 5 Tablespoons of contact solution, or 1/4 cup liquid starch.
If using contact solution, some people find adding 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to be helpful but I honestly don’t notice a difference.
Keep stirring everything with your spatula and adjust as needed.
Once the slime is cohesive, no longer sticky or appearing to have any liquid in the mixture, start kneading the slime – this is going to help it be less sticky (just like making homemade play dough).
Knead the slime for at least 3 minutes before adding any more ingredients to adjust.
Repeat this process with the two other colors of glitter and then lay together in parallel stripes.
Or, Method Two:
Pour 2 cups of glue in a large mixing bowl.
Stir the water into the glue, about 2 Tablespoons to start.
Then add the contact solution or liquid starch – 5 Tablespoons of contact solution, or 1/4 cup liquid starch.
If using contact solution, some people find adding 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to be helpful but I honestly don’t notice a difference.
Keep stirring everything with your spatula and adjust as needed.
Once the slime is cohesive, no longer sticky or appearing to have any liquid in the mixture, start kneading the slime – this is going to help it be less sticky (just like making homemade play dough).
Divide the slime into three equal parts and then add the individual colors of glitter to one part each. Knead the slime for at least 3 minutes before adding any more ingredients to adjust.
