There’s something so holiday-esque about buffalo plaid! I made a few plaid fabric covered ornaments a few years ago, but I thought it would be so fun to make some crochet plaid ornaments this year!  These are so fun and simple to make, and they turned out lovely.

It’s time to make your crafting experience as joyful as it should be. We can’t wait to meet you!

You can also play with the sizes by simply switching up your hook size and yarn.

For the smaller plaid ornament I used Knit Picks Shine Sport weight yarn in Serrano, Current and Black. You can see slight size difference between that one and the other red one worked with regular worsted acrylic, so switching up your hook and yarn can change the finished size of your ornaments.

Unless you are planning to make dozens and dozens of ornaments, you should be able make a few now, and then make a whole bunch with the leftover yarn from the other projects this week!

I also added a few embellishments to mine but this is totally optional. I love them both embellished and plain.

  1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate your patterns. I plan to use them in college football colors too (like blue & gold).

  2. Have you ever made this around a Christmas ornament bobble, to make it more round? if so what size would be best?

  3. Thank you so much for this pattern! I did several last year and loved them. I’m doing more now but I’m having a hard time in row 4. In the *…* instructions just after the ), it says to do the next 3 stitches in wine and then goes on to say the next 3 stitches are also in wine. Am I reading this wrong? Can you give me some direction? Thanks!

  4. I am in love with this Buffalo plaid! Thank you so much for the pattern and tutorial which was a tremendous help. I made the cowl, which came out fantastic. It was my first time lining something and it won’t be my last. I am now making a bunch of these adorable ornaments to give as gifts. So quick to do and I love embellishing them. Can’t thank you enough for the patterns!

  5. First time switching colors and couldn’t figure out how not to add the new color. A light bulb went off and I crocheted an extended sc with one color and finished off the sc with the new color works perfectly! Thank you for the pattern it’s so cute!

  6. Do you know which colors you used for the Red Heart Chic Sheep? I got stiletto and lipstick and thought sunset was the other color I needed, but it’s more pink, so I’m not sure what other color I could use to replace sunset.

  7. Adorable! Thanks Bethany. :-) Just finished my first one. I do believe it is the cutest thing I’ve ever made. Will post on your Insta site and FB community.

  8. These are so pretty! I wish I could do this plaid crocheting. I would like to have at least one on my tree.
