How To Make A Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light

How To Make A Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light

I promised you guys this Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light project last week when I posted my Mid Century Modern Side Table Makeover. Since it was part of my bedroom makeover I thought I should post it asap so you too can make your own bracket light for your bedroom space. This project only needs a handful of materials and most of them you can find at your local hardware store. Would you believe the materials I used to create the bracket light is a wooden bracket and plumping clamps. I have transformed these mundane and pedestrian materials into a stunning feature light that you too can create for your home. So let's get to making one of these Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light.

1.    Prep: Predrill pilot holes into the longest section of the plywood bracket for the Bugle Head Screws to attach it to the wall. Measure and mark evenly where each of the saddle pipe clips will sit and predrill each of the holes for these. Attach the saddle clip to one side of the plywood bracket with the Pan Head Screws in preparation for attaching to the wall.

2.    Mount: Measure and mark where the brackets will be located on the wall. Drill three holes into the plasterboard and press in the Plasterboard Anchors into each hole. To mount the bracket, line the pre-drilled pilot holes on the bracket with the holes in the wall. Secure the bracket with the Bugle Head Screws. Use a spirit level to make sure that the bracket is level.
** If the bracket is to be attached to a wall stud then the Plasterboard Anchors are not required.

3.    Attach: Once the bracket is mounted thread the electrical cord inside the top copper saddle clip and secure into place with a Pan Head Screw. Repeat the process down the entire length of the bracket making sure the cord is taut as you go along. Insert the Vintage Filament Lightbulb and plug into the socket to test. Repeat with the second light fitting and bracket.

There you go guys. Extremely simple and very straightforward to do. Bunnings (my local hardware store) has a fairly big range of different wooden brackets that could be used for a Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light. So choose one that fits your style and interior design. I made this light out of sheer frustration with the lack of lights like this available in Australia. I couldn't find anything like this reasonably priced so my frustrated self-went to the drawing board and started brainstorming ideas of how I could put together a feature light like such as this. The whole light system was founded on the plugin light that I found at my local target. They were selling them out for like $15 each but while you probably can't buy them now but you definitely can buy something similar online. Simply google "Plug-In Pendant Lights" and a variety of options come up. By going the plugin option this helps with not having to get an electrician in to hook the light up for you. Simply plug in the light and you're good to go.

We've had these lights up for over six months now and I am extremely happy with the project. They work so well, are super stylish and I don't have a pesky bedside lamp that takes up most of my bedside table. More room for books and pretty things. Yay. I had so much fun styling the side tables once the light fixtures were up. I was in my element that's for sure. I may or may not have gone on a little shopping expedition to Kmart purely for side table props. You couldn't blame me, could you?  I would love to hear from you if you so happen to be inspired to make your own Modern Hanging Wooden Wall Bracket Light of your own.
