DIY Patchwork Rug Wall Art – Wall Art Idea Guaranteed to Liven Up Any Room.

DIY-Patchwork-Rug-Wall-Hanging

Today I’m going to share the tutorial on how to create a feature wall that’ll make a serious style statement. As you know I strongly believe that your home should reflect your personal style – with this project your wall will get an instant unique and eclectic look. A very unexpected piece of art with plenty of opportunities to show your style.

Some of the biggest trends this year are texture, textiles and statement pieces. Today’s DIY Patchwork Rug Wall Art project combines all three trends.

As a tribute to the DOMOTEX tour earlier this year I’ve created this idea to inspire you to add more texture and textiles to your home.

Make a simple yet high impact idea to transform any room in your home.

So ready to add a dramatic focal point to your space in only two steps? Great, let’s get rolling.

Supplies

Rugs – I’ve used 1 IKEA ÅDUM rug + 1 ALHEDE rug + faux fur pillow cover

A pair of scissors, FISKARS – Amplify Mixed Media Shears

Brass plate

Nails and hammer – or heavy duty velcro adhesive tape.

Tip! Draw a sketch on paper so you know your design before you start to cut the different patches.

Tutorial

Step 1

After you decided on a design, place the rug face down and begin cutting each rug patch from the backside. You can use an all-around scissors but the Amplify Mixed Media Shears cut through any area rugs like butter.

Step 2

Use nails and a hammer or velcro adhesive tape just along the edges to apply the patches on the wall, and that it!

I’ve been inspired by the “Hello Sonia” by CC Tapis x Studio Pepe wallhanging from the exhibition “The Visit”, Milan 2017. Are you ready for a touch of Milan at home?

Go for contrasting colours, textures and bold design for high impact, or toning shades and a muted palette for a gentler approach.

Styling Tip! A good idea is to pick out any featured colours from your rug art and include them in soft furnishing or accessories so, that your DIY Patchwork Rug Wall Art is part of a cohesive design scheme.

If you won’t spend the money, or simply can’t afford a large scale artwork to fill that big empty space above your sofa? Then start eying up high street rugs, begin cutting and designing your own unique wall art.

The best thing about this project? If buying the IKEA versions that I’ve used, you’ve got plenty to make more than just one wallhanging.
