I was scratching my head all last week about what to post for Valentines Day. I was tossing up a recipe but I also wanted to post something crafty that was budget friendly and would be a great gift idea for the special day. The crafty idea won out because an idea popped into my head and I went with it.  If you have someone special in your life you want to spoil but the bank account is looking a little sad. Never fear. Check out my DIY Boxed Valentines Roses project below and you will have something utterly gorgeous that will blow your Valentine away and who are they to know that you pinched a few pennies to create something so special.

So what do you need to create your own DIY Valentines Boxed Roses. This is a list of materials I used in the project below:

Materials:

  • 13 x 8 cm paper mache round box
  • Gold spray paint
  • Marble contact paper
  • 12 x pink roses
  • Floral foam wet block
  • Organza ribbon
  • Gold tissue paper
  • Cellophane

To see how I created this cute Valentine present click on my video below. I show you from start to finish how to make this stunning gift. You know what the best part is it won't take any more than an hour to create from start to finish. So there are no excuses that you don't have enough time to pull something together.  Do you want to know my other secret weapon to making this project budget friendly? ALDI! Yes, I bought my roses from Aldi for $5.99 a bunch. I would recommend getting into your local Aldi a day or two in advance before the big day to snap up some flowers and have this made and hidden somewhere cool, and keep it well watered so that the roses stay fresh and beautiful. Trying to buy any type of flowers on Valentines is a recipe for some serious $$$$$. So to keep things on the more budget friendly side that is what I would recommend doing. Make sure you buy roses that have a tightly shut bud. The more open they are the sooner they will die.

To keep the roses fresh I would recommend watering the florist block every day with a quarter cup of water followed by a mist of water over the petals of the roses. I wouldn't recommend doing this any sooner than two days before the big day depending on the freshness of your roses. Also can't find pink roses why not go red, yellow or white? Either would look gorgeous displayed like this as a boxed gift.

To make the day even special why not use the Valentine Boxed Roses as a centrepiece to a beautifully set dinner table with a Valentine theme. I shopped my local Kmart (yes I really do love Kmart if you hadn't already noticed) and managed to pull together a gorgeous table with a few pieces from there range. I died over the pink bowls and plate and couldn't resist snapping them up for this project. The gold cutlery was a purchase I made late last year and they really do add a bit of bling to the tablescape. Add in a bit of a natural element with the small wooden pinch bowls and a sprinkling of some gold and pink love hearts what more could a girl want. I used a few offcuts of a white linen for the napkins but I have linked some below that would be just as good if you don't have any offcuts of material lying around.

If you want to pull this look together yourself then check out my gallery below. Click on the image to go to the link and website. Each of these pieces are really reasonably priced and you could easily purchase it all for around $40.
