I saw some map letters similar to this on Etsy. I decided to make a standing letter version for a friend who has a Paris themed guest bedroom. Instead of using a random map, I wanted something that actually had some meaning so I printed off various maps of Paris. A few of them were vintage and added a unique look to the letters. This would be a fun project with some maps you brought back from your last trip as well.
Materials Needed:
- Standing Wood Letters. I’m using 8 inch tall ones in the Windsor El BT font
- Maps, I just printed mine from the Internet
- White spray paint
- Spray adhesive, I’m using one found here. You could use Mod Podge.
- Razor knife
Gather Your Materials
You will also want some newspaper for the spray painting and spray adhesive.
Spray Paint
Since the front of the letters will be covered with the maps, I focused on coating the back and sides of the letters with the spray paint. You could also brush on craft paint instead.
Map for Each Letter
Choose a map for each letter. I cut the maps smaller to make them easier to work with as well.
Spray Glue
Turn the map over and lightly cover the backside with the spray glue.
Place the Letter
Place the letter face down onto the adhesive. Press it firmly onto the map. Allow to dry.
Remove Excess
Use the razor knife to carefully remove the excess paper from each letter.
Quick Look
Here is a quick peek at how my letters turned out.
Done!
Your Map Letters are now complete. The P (this will depend on your font) needed a small piece tape to stay upright. Display and enjoy!
